Bastian Jost

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Bastian Jost (also Jobst, Jostel ) was a Dresden councilor and mayor living in the 15th century .

Nothing is known about its origin. In 1472, Leonhard Jost was the first member of the family to be mentioned in Dresden. Bastian Jost himself is mentioned for the first time as councilor in 1485. He was the brother-in-law of the pharmacist and Dresden mayor Johannes Huffener . In 1493 he is mentioned in the town book as the owner of a house on the Ring ( Altmarkt ). He also appears several times in connection with credit transactions. In 1490, the head of the Jacob Hospital declared that Jost had paid off his debt to the hospital that he had taken on a long time ago. Two years later he lent his brother-in-law Johannes Huffener the amount of 400 guilders so that he could pay a fine imposed on him for failing to exercise his office as mayor. Huffener used his house and pharmacy as security.

When he joined the council in 1485, Bastian Jost initially took over the office of master builder. In 1486 he was also city judge. In 1498 he was the governing mayor and is also mentioned for the last time in the list of council members.
