Baudouin Fraeijs De Veubeke

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Baudouin M. Fraeijs De Veubeke (born August 3, 1917 in Reigate , † September 16, 1976 in Liège ) was a Belgian civil engineer.

Fraeijs De Veubeke studied in Liège and Leuven and was in the Belgian section of the Royal Air Force in 1944. From 1946 he was an engineer at the Belgian aircraft construction company Avions Fairey. In 1948 he became a lecturer and in 1952 professor at the University of Liège. There he was professor for continuum mechanics and headed the laboratory for aircraft and space technology.

He carried out basic research for the theory of finite elements through the formulation of general principles of variation (independent of Kyūichirō Washizu and Hu Haichang ). According to Kurrer, he did not find the recognition that was due to him because he was rather sober and reserved in his publications.

He was a member of the Belgian Academy of Sciences (corresponding member since 1963, full member since 1976).
