Bauer Elevator GmbH & Co. KG was a medium-sized company from Augsburg that manufactured elevators .

history

In 1921 Gotthilf Bauer founded a company in Augsburg's old town to manufacture hand winches and barrel lifts for industry and breweries. In 1928 the first larger elevators for the transportation of people and loads with electric drive were built and the name was changed to Gotthilf Bauer & Co. Elevator Factory Augsburg and G. Bauer & Co. KG GmbH . In the following years, two workshops, partly destroyed in the Second World War , were built on the Schwibbogen wall.

In the 1950s, the construction of self-propelled passenger elevators began, which replaced the older conversion and driver elevators. The company founder Gotthilf Bauer died in 1958.

In 1962 the company built a new building on Schafweidstrasse. Until the takeover, the company focused on building high-speed elevator systems. Therefore no more hydraulic systems were manufactured. Another name change was made to "Bauer Elevator GmbH & Co. KG". This existed until the takeover by KONE in 1985 and was continued as an epithet until the production stop in 1989.

In 1985, the large Finnish group KONE finally acquired the elevator manufacturer.

Product focus

The elevator manufacturer Bauer was pioneering in the invention and production of high-speed elevator systems. As a result, the manufacturer concentrated on systems with rope drives. The product categories ranged from passenger lifts to small goods lifts.

Dissolution and integration into the Kone group

In 1980 the large Finnish group Kone became aware of the well-known German elevator manufacturer. Since they saw a market niche in Germany and wanted to make the KONE brand down-to-earth in this country, the decision was made to acquire the company.

In 1984 the Kone company, which at that time was trading under the name of "Bauer Elevator GmbH & Co. KG", was fully integrated into the group. Five years later, production at Bauer in Augsburg was closed and the number of employees fell to 125, all of whom are now only active in the areas of assembly, service and storage.
