Farmer cunning
Peasant shrewdness is originally an eloquent paraphrase of the fact that people with little school education can effectively combine cunning , secrecy and far-sighted planning - when, for example, the farmer fools the teacher in a property deal or the administrative officer in a land consolidation procedure.
Here the cliché emerges that, as a rule, city dwellers are more capable of pragmatic calculations. Most of the time, the term 'farmer cunning' has a negative connotation, especially when it means the ability to achieve one's goals through planned action. It is seldom used, similar to the ' wisdom of life ', to emphasize that education and intelligence do not have to coincide. It is crucial that with 'intelligence' the instrumental reason is meant, which is only interested in knowledge from which a certain benefit can be drawn as directly as possible.
