The tree snail ( Lehmannia marginata ) is a species of nudibranch from the family of snails (Limacidae) native to Europe .
description
The tree snail reaches a body length of 25 to 50 mm. The basic color is light gray-brown, with light keel stripes and two dark bands on the coat. Sometimes the bands are also spotty or present in another irregular arrangement. The coat shield is darker in the middle and has a band on the side. The tail end is clearly keeled and the sole is light gray in color. The slime of the tree snail is colorless.
Occurrence, habitat and food
The tree snail is native to northern, central and western Europe. It lives mainly in deciduous forests, especially under the bark of dead trees such as bark. The tree snail lives on algae, lichens and also mushrooms, which it finds on the bark of trees. When it rains, it crawls up into the treetops of the beech trees to graze the algae.
