Tree mirror

In Germany, tree mirrors are white markings on the bark of trees at the roadside. They should clarify the course of the road for road users or point out a tree protruding into the clearance . This is to prevent accidents with trees. Tree mirrors not only serve traffic safety, but also the preservation of valuable street trees.

The installation and regular renewal of the tree mirror with white paint is the task of the road construction company and is usually carried out by the responsible road maintenance authority.

The use of tree mirrors has been declining for several years (as of 2012), as the effectiveness is questioned and the costs for installation and replacement are comparatively high. Structural measures, such as the installation of crash barriers , on the other hand, are much more effective.
