history

1972–1977: Foundation and first years of band

Baumstam was founded in 1972 by Gerd Stracke, Ulrich Klawitter, Michael Lobbe and Michael Willecke. In the first few years the band played large halls and open-air concerts all over Germany. The sound with two “heavy fuzz” guitars went down in German rock history as groundbreaking. In 1975 the LP On Tour was produced. This LP has cult status in collectors' circles and is traded for up to 600 euros. The songs are still broadcast today by various radio stations in the United States, for example. In 1977 the musicians separated because they could not agree to accept Deutsche Grammophon's offer for a record contract .

1977–2004: Interim

Between 1977 and 2004 the five members lost sight of each other, but never lost their penchant for music. Gerd Stracke and Ulrich Klawitter played independently of each other in different Witten bands.

Since 2004: re-establishment and subsequent years

At the beginning of 2004, the Baumstam musicians met again for a reissue of the record On Tour . The young guitarist and keyboardist Adrian Klawitter joined Michael Lobbe. In January 2005 the LP / CD Dreams of Yesterday was released with new songs in the typical tree trunk style. Anna Weigand (vocals, flute, percussion) supported the vocals in this music production and stayed with the band from 2004 to August 2006. In recent years, newer influences have also come from Adrian Klawitter, whereby Baumstam never lost touch with his own history. Since the beginning of 2005 one could experience Baumstam live again and thus gave the friends of rock music from the 1970s the opportunity to e.g. Enjoy the music at the Ümminger Summertime Festival, at the RIFF (Bochum) and the FZW (Dortmund). Since 2007 Baumstam has been touring with bands from the Kraut era that are still active, such as B. Jane, Epitath and Birth Control or was e.g. B. to experience as support for Stan Webb's Chicken Shack. In 2008 there were guest appearances in France. After the studio CD Moment in 2008, another reissue of the On Tour was released with two new songs and, at the end of 2009, a live CD and DVD of the "Dusty Roads Tour 2009". From the beginning of 2009 to March 2010 the band was reinforced by the guitarist Roman Ronzon. Volker Wobbe said goodbye to the stage in January 2010. The band's new bass player is Jens Gubert. In November 2011 Rex Dehnhardt was accepted into the band. He plays the keyboard. To mark the band's 40th birthday, the new studio album 72 - 12 = 40 (40th Anniversary) was released on CD and LP in March 2012 . Baumstam can be seen live again on the 40th Anniversary Tour.
