Bavington Hall

Bavington Hall is a country house in the village of Little Bavington , Northumberland . The 17th century house is privately owned and English Heritage has it as a Historic Building II *. Grade listed.

A residential tower called Little Bavington Tower is documented on this site for 1415, but it was replaced by a country house at the end of the 17th century on behalf of the Shafto family .

The Shafto family came into possession of the property when William Shafto married the Bavington heir in the 15th century. In 1716 William Shafto and his son John were accused of active roles in the First Jacobite Rising in 1715. The property in Bavington was stripped from them and sold by the Crown to Admiral George Delaval . Delaval gave the property back to the Shafto family on his death, since he bequeathed it to his brother-in-law, George Delaval Shafto , High Sheriff of Northumberland in 1739 and Member of Parliament for Northumberland from 1757–1774.

Major changes and improvements were made to the three-story house with seven bays in 1720, 1851 and 1920.

The Shafto family sold the property in 1994. The current owners offer holiday apartments in farms on the property. On the property you will also find a grotto, statues and other details that are listed as historical buildings of the 2nd degree.
