The Bay High School is a public school in downtown Panama City , Florida, USA . As one of the oldest continuously accredited public colleges in Florida, the school serves approximately 1,500 students in grades 9 through 12 in the Bay District Schools.

The school has a faculty of 80 people. 55% of faculty have advanced degrees and many are currently or have previously taught in community college, college, and / or university. The majority of the faculty are alumni of the school. Bay High School graduates have excelled in science, medicine, law, business, politics, education, religion, athletics, and many other fields.

history

Bay High School was established as Bay County High School in Panama City, Florida on September 13, 1926. The building contained an office, twelve classrooms and an auditorium. Your yearbook topic has been the pelican since its inception.

In 1945 they built the Tommy Oliver Memorial Stadium in honor of a football player's namesake. The stadium was renovated in March 2018 and the school built the Joe and Jeanette Chapman Field, named after the philanthropist's namesake.

In 2016, the Washington Post named Bay High School one of the most challenging high schools in the United States.

Hurricane Michael

Bay High School was badly damaged by the landing of Category 5 Hurricane Michael on October 10, 2018 . Since then, more than 60% of students and teachers have been in temporary modular classrooms. The school will be renovated in 2019. In the future, a new library, a modern MINT facility and a new center for visual arts will be built.

While temporarily staying at the neighboring Jinks Middle School, the building of which was also badly damaged, they co-hosted a Thanksgiving community celebration with the Middle School, featured on ABC's Good Morning America on November 21, 2018 .

In April 2019, the school's students took part in a rally at the Florida State Capitol in Tallahassee to ask lawmakers for aid funding for the school and their district.

School uniforms

The students in the school must wear school uniforms. You must wear sturdy red, white, or black shirts or a school-approved spirit T-shirt, as well as closed toe shoes and a belt. You can wear blue jeans, khakis, and skirts. Exceptions are made on donation days. However, after Hurricane Michael, the rest of the 2018–19 school year continued without a dress code.

Million dollar ribbon

Bay High School's Million Dollar Band consists of around 50 students. The origin of the Million Dollar band name was in the 1960s, when the engagement of the band increased and the production costs of the band exceeded a million dollars.

The current band director is Nicholas Efstathiou.
