The Bay of Seals ( English for Bay of Seals ) is an icy bay on the Shirase coast of the Antarctic Ross Dependency .
It was discovered by the Norwegian naval officer and polar explorer Kristian Prestrud (1881-1927), who was involved in the South Pole expedition (1910-1912) of the Norwegian polar explorer Roald Amundsen and who had led the exploration team in this area. New Zealand scientists named it in 1958 after the fact that the crew killed seals here and used them to set up a food depot on the shore of the bay.
