Bavaria on this side of the Rhine

Location of the Kingdom of Bavaria in the German Empire : The larger eastern part was referred to as Bavaria on this side of the Rhine from the point of view of the seat of government Munich , the smaller western part as Bavaria on the other side of the Rhine .

Bavaria on this side of the Rhine , like Bavaria on the other side of the Rhine, was a geographical name from the period between 1816 and 1946, when the Palatinate on the left bank of the Rhine belonged to the Kingdom of Bavaria and its successor states. The terms were used from a Munich perspective, ie "this side" for right bank of the Rhine , "beyond" for the Palatinate .
