Bayi ( Chinese  八一 镇 , Pinyin Bāyī Zhèn ) is a large community in the Bayi district of the city of Nyingchi in the Tibet Autonomous Region of the People's Republic of China . Bayi is the capital and seat of government for both the city and the borough.

The name "Bayi" ( 八一 , bāyī ), literally: eight-one, stands for the first day of the eighth month , i.e. August 1st, the anniversary of the Nanchang Uprising , which is celebrated as the founding day of the People's Liberation Army .
