Coordinates: 54 ° 15 ′ 44 " N , 3 ° 16 ′ 23" W.
The Baystone Bank Reservoir was a man-made lake in the Lake District , Cumbria , England north of Millom and east of White Combe . The lake was created between 1876 and 1877 for drinking water. It has not been used since 1996 and was temporarily used for trout fishing .
United Utilities , who owned the lake, recognized the importance of the water body for the local flora and fauna and arranged for appropriate compensatory measures by creating small ponds and relocating a rare species of bream to other places before the boundary walls of the lake were removed . The area of the water body was restored between 2011 and 2012 according to a map from 1876 and a small body of water was created on the area.
