Jan Ernestowitsch Sten
January Ernestowitsch Sten ( Russian Ян Эрнестович Стэн , Latvian Janis Stens ; born March 9, jul. / 21st March 1899 greg. In Livonia ; † 20th June 1937 in Moscow ) was a Soviet philosopher. He was considered an expert in dialectics , epistemology and social philosophy .
Life
Jan Sten became a member of the revolutionary movement in Latvia during the First World War . He fought in the Russian Civil War and was a delegate at the 9th and 10th Congress of the Communist Party .
Sten taught at Moscow State University, was a member of the editorial board of the magazine Революция и культура , transcription: Rewoljuzija i Kultura (Revolution and Culture). In 1925 he taught philosophy to Joseph Stalin twice a week. From 1928 to 1930 he was deputy director of the Marx-Engels Institute . In October 1932, Sten was expelled from the party and arrested for the first time. During the Stalin Great Terror , he was sentenced to death and shot.
