BeIA ( Be I nternet A ppliances) was a limited version of Be Incorporated's BeOS operating system , especially for embedded systems .

In developing BeIA, Be cooperated with the software manufacturers Opera, whose Opera browser was used under BeIA, and with RealMedia , as their RealPlayer was also used under BeIA. Further cooperation partners were the hardware manufacturers Compaq and National Semiconductor .

Web pads or set-top boxes were intended as areas of application for BeIA . Therefore, BeIA only offered programs for Internet access, such as a browser and an e-mail program or multimedia applications , such as RealPlayer. In addition, BeIA booted in a very short time.

Devices that used BeIA appeared from Sony and Compaq .
