Beardown Man

Beardown Man is a Bronze Age menhir ( English standing stone ) near Devil's Tor and the Cowsic River in Devon , England . The 3.5 m high menhir, which has broken out at the lower end, consists of granite and was erected more than 4000 years ago.

The name Man comes from the Celtic Maen ( German  stone ). Beardown refers to the Beardown Tors , hills in the heart of Dartmoor , a mountainous region in central Devon. The menhir stands about ten miles northeast of Tavistock . The closest locations are Postbridge in the east and Two Bridges in the south.
