Tavistock is a small town on Tavy in west Devon . The river was the reason for the name. The city has a population of approximately 11,000. The history of the city starts at 961 when the Abbey Tavistock Abbey, whose ruins lie in the modern city center, was founded.
The megalithic complex of Merrivale (also Merivale) is located in Dartmoor National Park near the B3357 at Tavistock.
