Bearer Independent Call Control

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Bearer Independent Call Control ( BICC ) is a signaling protocol that was specified by the ITU-T in Recommendation Q.1901 as a universal standard with regard to the integration of existing communication networks into a uniform network infrastructure.

BICC is intended as a compatible replacement for the ISUP that has been used so far . In contrast to ISUP, BICC is based on the consistent separation of call signaling and control of connection establishment in the transport network . BICC enables the provision of existing analog and ISDN services regardless of the transport network technology used (e.g. circuit-switching ISDN or data packet-oriented Internet ).

The necessary coordination of the call and connection control, which is separate in BICC, is handled with the help of Megaco / H.248.
