Beckum attacks

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Beckum attacks (also Beckumer ) are a collection of foolish stories that allegedly take place in the city of Beckum and resemble the public pranks. These and other stories were popularized among the people in the so-called Lalebuch (= book of fools printed in 1597 in Laleburg) and appended to various cities. Almost every region got its shield in this way. The Beckum attacks are therefore literary traveling legends.

When the first emergency money was printed in Beckum , the foolishness was depicted with a lot of self-irony as local representations on the emergency money notes. Some of them show the interior painting of the Soestwarte , an observation tower near Beckum.
