Becquerel is an impact crater on the northern hemisphere of the moon . It lies on the side facing away from the earth and consists of a very old and heavily weathered formation, which is little more than an irregularity in the lunar surface. The crater edges are very flat and have been shaped by numerous other impacts into a mountainous region around the flat interior. The interior of the main crater is mostly flat, but is characterized by smaller impact craters.
Further impacts formed a small, straight valley in the southwest of the crater. In the northwest the double crater Becquerel W and Becquerel X belong to the formation, in the east it is supplemented by the two smaller craters Becquerel E and Becquerel F.
The crater was first recorded in 1965 by the space probe Zond -3 while it was flying past the moon. It received its official name in 1970 from the International Astronomical Union (IAU).
