A bed mover is a floor conveyor for moving hospital beds by machine. The function is similar to that of a pallet truck .

application

The bed movers are used in hospitals to carry out internal patient transports for examinations , operations or when moving between wards. A modern hospital bed weighs between 150 and 200 kilograms, with a normal weight patient (approx. 80 kg) the weight of a bed with patients is 230 to 280 kilograms. For further paths or inclines and for overweight peopleFor patients, pushing the bed is exhausting or cannot be managed by one person. It is estimated that the number of overweight patients will continue to rise in the following years, and hospitals will have to adjust to this. For these reasons, bed movers were developed, which take over the force-consuming part. The staff can thus concentrate more on the control and the patient and identify any changes in the medical condition more quickly. Bumping into walls, doors, etc., damage to the walls and pain for the patient from the bumps can thus be reduced.

Functions and operation

The control when using a bed mover is still taken over by the staff. Depending on the model and manufacturer, this is done either by means of a remote control , a permanently installed module or manual steering, which is supported by the motor.

Depending on the model, the bed movers are docked at the head or foot of the bed. The docking is different depending on the model, there are models in which the Bed Mover is hooked onto the frame or fastened with straps, in other models the Bed Mover is fastened to the wheel supports.

The speed can also be adjusted depending on the patient's condition and the route. Bed movers are operated by batteries ; for charging, the devices are usually simply plugged into a socket.

use

As an electrically operated medical product, a bed mover can only be operated by persons who have been instructed. To prevent misuse and theft, most models are equipped with a key switch. An emergency stop switch is also available on almost all models, as is a horn .
