Fortified hilltop settlement Thunau am Kamp

Reconstructed southern gate system

The fortified hilltop settlement Thunau am Kamp is located on the Schanzberg in Thunau am Kamp in the market town of Gars am Kamp in the Horn district in Lower Austria . The remains of the hilltop settlement are under monument protection ( list entry ).

history

Original settlement from the late Neolithic . There are finds from the Latène period and from the 5th century AD. In the end of the 8th century there was a Slavic settlement with the construction of barrows with stone constructions.

architecture

The first fortifications were a mighty section wall with a moat in the Urnfield period .
