Deferred satisfaction

Postponing satisfaction is, according to Sigmund Freud, a considered and controlled action , a review of reality by the ego , which channels and directs and thus controls the free flow of energy . According to Freud's secondary model of action, detours lead to increased pleasure. Delayed satisfaction is a component of individual planning . According to Mahrer (1956), it depends in part on expectations regarding the reinforcers that will also become active after the delay.
