The Ilmenau Authority Center is an authority center on the northeastern edge of the old town of Ilmenau ( Thuringia ). It includes the tax office of the Ilm district , the Ilmenau police station , the Ilmenau district court and the Thuringian state office for metrology and calibration .

The administrative center is located on the area between Amtsstrasse in the west, Unterpörlitzer Strasse in the north, Münzstrasse in the east and Wallgraben in the south, just a few meters east of the town hall. It was completed in its current form in 2001. The state of Thuringia invested around 17 million euros in the renovation or addition of other buildings in 2000/2001.

Police inspection

The Ilmenau Police Department of the Gotha Police Department is located in the northwest of the area in a building erected in 1898 that was previously used as a district court. The yellow brick building was renovated in 2000 and a new building was added. The new building adjoins the old building to the south and is connected to it via a glass corridor. The new building itself comprises three floors, whereby the ground floor is partially absent, but has been replaced by columns so that parking areas could be created underneath. The entire north front of the new building is glazed and the south front consists of a mixture of red-painted concrete surfaces and glazed surfaces.

Tax office

The tax office is a completely new building on a previously fallow area. During the excavation work in 2000, the remains of a castle from the 11th-16th centuries were discovered under the building. Century, of whose existence one knew, but did not know the exact location in the old town of Ilmenau. In order to do justice to monument protection aspects, the building plans had to be changed. Part of the ruin can now be seen in the open air, while another part was renovated by the tax office and can now be viewed in a hall on the ground floor.

The new building is L-shaped around the ruins of the moated castle. It has four storeys and - in order to create a contrast to the neighboring new police station building - has a dark red clinker brick facade with relatively few glass surfaces. On the south side of the tax office is also the entrance to the two-level underground car park, which extends under large parts of the administrative center and offers around 160 parking spaces.

District Court

From an administrative point of view, the district court is a branch of the Arnstadt district court , which is responsible for the southern part of the Ilm district. It is a representative, three-story building from 1914, which initially housed a precision engineering vocational school and later the glass technical school. Parts of the building have been used as a district court since 1994. The building is a listed building and is - especially inside - worth seeing. During the renovation in 2000, a fire protection guideline was implemented by adding a second staircase to the non-visible east side of the building. Since then, there has also been an elevator there to make the building barrier-free . Due to the fact that there are only relatively low buildings in front of the district court and due to its hillside location, it looks very dominant to the south.

Thuringian State Office for Metrology and Calibration

The Thuringian State Office for Metrology and Calibration has been located in Ilmenau since 1889 (then as a Grand Ducal Testing Institute) and since 1898 in the current building in the northeast of the administrative center. A new building to the east was added as early as the 1930s, and another small extension followed in 2001 on Münzstrasse.
