The legal term authority certificate (not to be confused with certificate of good conduct ) in the Federal Republic of Germany denotes an official communication of the knowledge of an authority on a certain topic, in which every reference to the origin of the knowledge - mostly for reasons of confidentiality , in particular the protection of sources - is omitted.

The most common practical application in Germany against prosecutors' offices and courts given authorities testimonies of the Federal Criminal Police Office and by German intelligence services (intelligence), mostly state agencies for constitutional protection when content is to be communicated, with intelligence means as observation , undercover investigation , releases a V-person , Wiretapping or any other use of technical means were obtained, which is why, for reasons of protecting the identity of witnesses or the secrecy of the methods used, no precise description of the origin of the knowledge is intended.
