For people with disabilities, the disability associations often offer:

Important subject areas are in particular:

  • supporting parents of disabled children so that they can raise their children to lead an independent life,
  • the promotion of residents of inpatient facilities who are interested in moving out to lead a more independent life, e.g. B. in shared apartments of peers .

In the social context, the disability associations are primarily involved in the following areas:

  • Assertion of the interests of disabled people in municipal and supraregional building and transport planning.

Statutory participation rights

Politicians must ensure that, in the interests of equal opportunities, the independent position of organizations for the disabled is recognized by all and that the organizations are supported at all levels. This includes hearing and participation rights. In the meantime, representatives of the disabled in a central committee of the health system, the Federal Joint Committee, have hearing rights, but no decision-making rights.
