With us at home

With us z'Haus is a waltz by Johann Strauss Sohn (op. 361). The work was performed for the first time on August 6, 1873 in the amusement park Schwenders Neue Welt in Hietzing (Vienna).

Remarks

The work was initially composed as a choral waltz for the World Exhibition in Vienna in 1873 and was premiered on the occasion of this event by the World Exhibition Orchestra and the Vienna Men's Choir under the direction of the composer. Anton Langer wrote the text. Here visitors to the world exhibition are brought closer to the life of the Viennese population. The premiere was very well received, and critics predicted that the waltz would be as successful as Strauss had with the waltz On the Beautiful Blue Danube . The date and place of the world premiere of the instrumental version of the work are not known. The waltz was dedicated to Marie Fürstin Hohenlohe-Schillingfürst, a daughter of Franz Liszt . The prediction of success mentioned did not occur. The waltz Bei uns z'Haus clearly lagged behind other works by the composer. In 1899, Adolf Müller used parts of this work in the third act (No. 12 instrumental) of the operetta Wiener Blut , which he composed based on motifs by Johann Strauss (son) .

The playing time on the CD listed under individual records is 8 minutes and 57 seconds. Depending on the musical conception of the conductor, this time can change by up to a minute plus or minus.
