Affirmation (sociology)
Affirmation is a term that was introduced into sociology by Ferdinand Tönnies (1855–1936) . Affirmation forms a category for determining the essence of the social and, according to Tönnies, is to be understood as an explicit research subject in sociology. According to Tönnies, the social, as reality that can be empirically grasped and experienced, consists only of a common willing, that is, of the mutual affirmation of the subjects.
