Belako is a Spanish post-punk band from Mungia in the Basque Country . The band sings mainly in English , but occasionally also in Basque . Their name refers to a quarter of Mungia, in which the band's rehearsal rooms are located. The neighborhood is also home to two band members.

history

Belako was founded in 2011 and first played in small venues and recorded the first songs. Her music was heavily influenced by the New Wave genre. Soon the group developed their style further and incorporated elements of electronic music into their music.

In 2012 the band won a competition on the Basque radio station Euskal Irrati Telebista and took third place in a competition on the radio station Radio 3 , allowing them to appear at the Bilbao BBK Live that same year and to support Elvis Costello at the Heineken Jazzaldia .

Although the band was only just formed, the band released the album Eurie (in German: Regen ). The band received good reviews from critics. This enabled the band to perform numerous appearances on the Iberian Peninsula in 2014 . The band has performed at the Primavera Sound , Festival Tres sesenta, BBK Live and Ebrovisión festivals , among others .

In November 2015, Belako released the first single from their second album Hamen with Track being (in German: here ). The album was released in January 2016, but the band had been promoting the album since the fall of the previous year. The album was released by the record company Mushroom Pillow , which has also worked with the bands Triángulo de Amor Bizarro , La Habitación Roja and El Columpio Asesino . The album was much more elaborately produced than the band's debut album, and Belako also played concerts outside of Spain on the accompanying tour.

In February 2018 she released her third album, Render Me Numb, Trivial Violence , which features 14 songs.
