Primavera Sound is an open air festival in Barcelona .
The festival first took place in 2001 at the Poble Espanyol open-air museum . Around 8,000 spectators saw acts such as Armand Van Helden and Faze Action . The following years saw the audience increase. In 2005, the company moved to the newly built Parc del Fórum outdoor area . As of 2010, there were always over 100,000 visitors on up to five days of the event. Since 2012 there has been a partner festival in the Portuguese city of Porto .
To enforce gender equality, the festival has been booking around 50% female artists since 2019.
In 2020 the festival had to be canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic . The next edition is planned for June 2-6, 2021.
