The Postal Service is an American indie ( tronic ) band.

The band consists of Ben Gibbard (singer of Death Cab for Cutie ) and Jimmy Tamborello, both of whom are still active in other bands.

Band history

The two first worked together when Gibbard took over the vocal part for a song from Tamborello's project Dntel . Because of the success of this collaboration, the two decided to produce their own album. The name The Postal Service came about because Gibbard and Tamborello were never able to work with each other personally due to the great distance between them and it was therefore natural that Tamborello programmed music and sent it by post to Gibbard, who then sang over the existing tracks as well Added melodies and then sent them back to Tamborello.

In 2003 her album Give Up was released . The album also achieved considerable success after a joint tour. Confirmed by the success, the two musicians decided to continue working together despite working in their own bands. It was the most successful album on their label ( Sub Pop ) since Nirvana's debut album Bleach .

Gibbard told Rolling Stone in December 2008 that although he and Tamborello have worked together from time to time, there is no specific plan to produce a second album. Both are too busy with other projects for that.

On January 21, 2013, exactly ten years after the release of their first EP called Such Great Heights , the band's reunion was announced. A second album is currently being produced. Between April and July 2013, the band will also return to the stage with concerts in the USA, Canada and Europe.

various

  • In January 2006 Josh Melnick and Xander Charity , who produced the music video for Such Great Heights , shot a commercial for Apple and Intel . They use the same footage as in the music video. Like the music video, the advertisement did not include an appearance by the band. Despite their disappointment (Ben Gibbard commented on the band's homepage), The Postal Service have not taken any legal action against the directors or the companies involved.
