action

Matthew found his great love in the dancer Lisa. He confesses to her that he wants to live with her forever. The next day Lisa disappeared.

When he thinks he recognizes her two years later in a pub in his hometown of Chicago, but she quickly disappears without noticing him, he follows her footsteps. A map and another man lead him to an apartment, apparently full of Lisa's belongings and inhabited by a woman named Lisa. But this woman looks very different from the Lisa he knows. An embarrassing mix-up leads to a night together, but this new Lisa hides a secret, u. a. that her real name is Alex, and a great love.

It turns out through flashbacks that Alex and Lisa are best friends and Alex had also fallen in love with Matthew. Before she disappeared, Lisa had given Alex a letter intended for Matthew stating that Lisa had received an urgent engagement in Paris and would be back. However, through clever intrigues , Alex managed to convince Lisa that Matthew already had another girlfriend.

When it all dissolves, Matthew and Lisa just miss each other in Wicker Park, where they used to meet. Lisa threatens to move to Europe forever. However, the two meet again at the last moment at the airport.

Reviews

"This is a smart movie, full of astonishing reverses and switchbacks, and it adroitly walks the thin line between too clever by half and not clever enough by three-quarters. (Translation: A torn film, full of surprising flashbacks, and it skilfully masters the fine line between being clever and not clever enough.) "

- Stephen Hunter, Washington Post

“Loved by three women, Hollywood heartbreaker Josh Hartnett ('Pearl Harbor') staggers into an adventure of passion, betrayal and secrets, which deserves a large audience with its dramaturgical originality and emotionality as an ideal date movie. ... Hollywood's answer to the French Amour fou 'Lügen der Liebe' takes over the plot line and the nested structure of the original, but reduces its disturbing component. Nevertheless, 'Sehnsüchtig' is the rare example of a successful remake in which Josh Hartnett remains a little pale, but colleague Rose Byrne's portrayal is emotionally shimmering in all its facets.
