Stress disorder
Stress disorder is a vague collective term in clinical psychology and medicine for reactions (mostly acute stress reaction ) to a one-off or continued stress (e.g. operations , rape , natural disasters , accidents or the death of a child). Those affected often recapitulate or re-enact the stressful event.
Classifications according to DSM and ICD
In the DSM-IV , the following two stress disorders are coded (according to their duration and severity):
- Acute stress disorder , popularly known as a nervous breakdown , occurs immediately after the stressful event.
- Post-traumatic stress disorder occurs some time after the stressful event. She leads z. B. to partial amnesia , a depressive mood to "flashbacks" to personality changes to Emotions unemployment and avoidance of certain situations or things; it can become chronic.
In the ICD-10 , these “stress disorders” fall into the category of reactions to severe stress and adjustment disorders .
In both systems they are subordinate to anxiety disorders . There are various other disorders that contain the term, e.g. B. Post-traumatic stress disorder in children and adolescents . On the other hand, apparently similar disorders such as complex post- traumatic stress disorder (according to ICD-10) are counted among the personality disorders .
Sometimes the adjustment disorder is also viewed as a stress disorder. However, the term “stress disorders” is also used for short when talking about “stress and adjustment disorders”, and thus the group of adjustment disorders is either equally weighted or subordinated.
