Lighting trailers (or light mast trailers) are combined units consisting of a power generator and lighting components on a chassis. This type of resource is used by many aid organizations such as B. Fire brigades , THW , used in disaster control and rapid action groups of the Red Cross.
purpose
During operations by rescue organizations, it was sometimes found that there was a shortage of suitable lighting material for larger operations over a longer period of time. For this reason, various organizations felt compelled to purchase lighting material and keep it in stock. In order to be able to bring the various devices to use quickly and completely on site, the shape and transport by means of a trailer was chosen.
construction
These lighting trailers at aid organizations are essentially made up of four components:

Bulbs
In general, metal halide or halogen spotlights are used that allow directed radiation onto an object. When using headlights, however, the glare effect is not insignificant and, due to the directional effect of the spotlights, uniform, areal illumination is difficult to achieve. Furthermore, an application-specific light source selection is important. For example, an Na vapor lamp is not suitable for use in the medical field, since the color rendering is distorted and z. B. Blood appears as a black liquid. If you need uninterrupted light supply, the use of metal halide lamps is not recommended and the use of halogen spotlights is recommended.
As an alternative to directional radiator systems, lighting balloons can also be used, which have a 360 ° radiation of the amount of light and represent relatively glare-free lighting.
Power generator
A power generator is used to power the lighting means, which in addition to the lighting supply can also supply other sections of use with power. Particularly in the medical field, attention must be paid to exhaust gas routing and noise pollution.
The device should also have a central, clearly arranged control point, which means that it can be operated by just one person and one point on the vehicle.
chassis
Depending on the design and model of the lighting trailer, a few points must be observed: - Total weight of the system - Height-adjustable drawbar - Robust design - Extendable support to prevent tilting and strong swaying
There is usually space on the chassis to stow additional technical equipment in a storage box.
Mast / tripod
Manual tripod systems, hydraulic masts and pneumatic masts are used here.
