Belgrade Inner Highway Half-Ring

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Belgrade Inner Magistrals Half-Ring (Serbian Unutrašnji magistralni poluprsten ; Abbr. UMP ) is a traffic concept that is currently being implemented in Belgrade , Serbia .

The route of the UMP runs parallel to the Pan-European Transport Corridor X and is intended to connect one of the little-traveled Bulevars within the Novi Beograd district via the New Sava Bridge with the city center of Belgrade on the right of the Sava , thereby relieving the urban motorway .

Routing

The UMP runs in Novi Beograd south of the city motorway and crosses the Save over the Ada ciganlija . A connection to the road network in the city center will then take place via a tunnel under the Dedinje. The total length of the UMP should be 17 km.

realization

The implementation of the UMP began with the official start of construction on the new Savebrücke in October 2008.

Effects

In general, a relief of the Belgrade city center is expected. In particular, the Sava Bridge Gazela , which has reached its capacity limit, is to be relieved by the new Savebrücke and the UMP. According to today's traffic volume, the UMP would relieve the traffic volume on the Gazela by 27%, on the Brankovom most by 24% and the main roads in the immediate vicinity of the Neue Savebrücke by 42%. This would increase the driving speed there from 19 to 26 km / h.

criticism

The UMP is exposed to strong criticism due to its high costs. According to the critics, the funds could be better used for the Belgrade Metro . The high costs of the new Savebrücke alone of around 150 million euros could have been more than halved with a simpler bridge model.
