Bellnet is the oldest editorially edited web catalog for Germany and is operated by the International Consulting and Marketing Group, Inc. in Apollo Beach , Florida .
History and origin of name
Bellnet emerged from a collection of links by the managing director Christian Bellingrath , who, as a German living in the USA, collected links to websites in Germany. In June 1995, the Bellnet web catalog was launched based on this. The name "Bellnet" was formed from the first syllables of the name "Bellingrath" and "Net" (for Internet ). Bell was the nickname of both Christian Bellingrath and his wife Renate, whose maiden name was "Bellgardt".
The Bellnet web catalog was one of the first to catalog websites in addition to the subject category according to regional criteria. The web catalog is relatively extensive and contains 400,000 editorially edited entries, which are divided into around 15,000 categories.
