Ben Furman (born September 21, 1953 in Helsinki ) is a Finnish psychiatrist , psychotherapist and co-founder of the Helsinki Short Therapy Center . He is an internationally recognized expert in solution-focused therapy, coaching and organizational consulting . His book It's Never Too Late to Have a Happy Childhood was included in the list of 100 Masterworks in Psychotherapy.

From 1999 to 2006 he had a regular talk show on the first Finnish television channel YLE TV1 , the title of which would be on German Psychological Television . There he asked his guests how they overcame illnesses or problems. Furman also appears regularly at international conferences in Europe, North America and the Middle East or holds workshops in these countries. His books have so far been translated into ten languages.

Lyhytterapiainstituutti Oy

In 1985, Ben Furman together with his long-time colleague, friend and social psychologist Tapani Ahola the Lyhytterapiainstituutti Oy , the Helsinki Brief Therapy Center. This institute offers a three-year training course in solution-focused therapy, which is officially recognized. Graduates are entitled to work as psychotherapists. Together with Tapani Ahola , Furman also wrote the Finnish classic solution-focused therapy, the book Solution Conversation . Furman is also a sought-after trainer and teacher outside of therapy - especially in the areas of personnel development , team building and improving the work environment. Also together with Tapani Ahola , he has developed three innovative methods in these areas: reteaming , TwinStar and COOPERATION .

Kids' skills

Ben Furman has been dealing with the problems of children and young people for many years. With his colleagues, he has developed a number of educational and therapeutic methods. Kids' Skills represents a solution, Steps of Responsibility a constructive way of dealing with youthful misconduct. Furman has also written a book on this subject.
