Ben Lee (violinist)

Ben Lee (* 1980 in Eastbourne , Sussex ) is a British violinist and composer.

Lee became known as "the world's fastest electric violinist" after playing Rimski-Korsakov's flight of the bumblebee in 58.515 seconds in November 2010 .

Early life

At age eleven, Lee won a competition on The Children's Channel on BskyB and recorded his first single on Capital Radio. He received several scholarships at various music schools. At 16, he was awarded the Daily Telegraph Young Jazz Composer of the Year award.

Lee studied violin and film music composition at the Royal College of Music London from 1999 to 2003 . During his studies Lee found work as a session musician . He recorded with The Beta Band Heroes to Zeros . This was followed by recordings with Razorlight , the Arctic Monkeys , Gorillaz , Emmy The Great, Goldfrapp and others. He also directed the Heritage Orchestra . In 2005, Lee founded the electric string quartet Eclipse .

Fuse

At the end of 2007, Lee founded the violin duo Fuse with his band colleague Linzi Stoppard . In 2009 FUSE signed a record deal with Edel AG Records and released their debut album Fuse the following year .

In the summer of 2009, Lee had a traffic accident; he was hit by a truck and suffered minor injuries to his right hand and wrist. Linzi Stoppard suggested he break the Guinness World Record as "fastest violinist" as part of his medical rehabilitation. Lee made his first attempt on The Alan Titchmarsh Show on British television but missed it by three grades. On April 7th he broke the record with a time of 64.21 seconds.

In November 2010, Lee broke the record again, this time on an electric violin with 58.515 seconds.
