Benderli Mehmed Selim Sırrı Pascha
Benderli Selim Sırrı Pascha (* 1771 in Bendery , today Transnistria , † 1831 in Istanbul , Ottoman Empire ) ruled from September 15, 1824 to October 26, 1828 under Sultan Mahmut II as Grand Vizier . The military operation under his leadership against the Greek struggle for freedom was unsuccessful. The defeat of the Ottoman-Egyptian fleet of 1827 at the Battle of Navarino fell within his tenure.
Unlike Benderli Ali Pascha , he was not executed; from 1828 to 1831 he was still governor general of Rumelia (Balkan provinces of the Ottoman Empire) and 1830-1831 as Wali of Damascus ( Syria ).
