Benedetta Ciardi

Benedetta Ciardi (born October 7, 1971 in Florence , Italy) is an Italian astrophysicist . Since 2006 she has headed a research group at the Max Planck Institute for Astrophysics in Garching .

On November 7th, 2004 she was awarded the Marie Curie Prize of the European Commission .

Among other things, she investigated the effect of the radiation from the first stars in the early phase of the universe (reionization phase) on the gas clouds during galaxy formation. She also carried out extensive computer simulations.
