Benedict IV

Benedict IV († August 903 in Rome ) was Pope from 900 to 903.

He stood on the side of Pope Formosus, who died in 896, and was involved in battles between noble Roman families . Like his predecessor John IX. he confirmed the legality of the pontificate of Formosus. Benedict IV crowned the King of the Longobards , Ludwig von Niederburgund , as Roman Emperor in February 901 , who was defeated by his opponent Berengar I in 902 .

Benedict IV died in Rome in August 903.
