Ludwig III. Bosonides , called the blind (* around 881/882; † June 5, 928 in Arles ) from the Buviniden family was King of Niederburgund from 887 to 928, King of the Lombards (= Italy ) from 900 to 905, making him one of the national kings was, and Roman Emperor 901/902 to 905.

He was the son of Boso von Vienne and his wife Ermengard , a daughter of Emperor Ludwig II of Italy . After his father's death, he and his mother paid homage to Emperor Karl the Dicken as an underage heir and received his inheritance from him as a fief . Ludwig was in the same relationship with Karl's successor Arnolf of Carinthia .

In 900 Ludwig was also King of the Longobards (= Italy) and in February 901 was crowned emperor by Pope Benedict IV . 905 he was defeated Berengar of Friuli , of him by blinding the blind made and expelled from Italy. Count Hugo von Arles became Ludwig's regent in Niederburgund and after his death in 928 also his successor as king.

Ludwig was married twice. His first marriage was around 900 with Anna of Byzantium (* 886; † before 914), daughter of the Byzantine emperor Leo VI. , his second in 914 with Adelheid von Burgund, probably a daughter of King Rudolf I of the Guelph family .
