Benito García de la Parra

Benito García de la Parra Téllez (born August 23, 1884 in Bargas , † July 10, 1953 in Madrid ) was a Spanish composer and music teacher.

Benito García de la Parra began his musical training in Toledo with José Fernández and continued it at the Conservatory of Madrid with Pedro Fontanilla and Emilia Serrano . He completed his studies at the conservatory in 1908 with first prizes in the subjects of harmony and composition, and was given a chair in harmony there the following year. In 1940 he became secretary and in 1944 deputy director of the conservatory.

After Joaquín Torina's death in 1949 he became a member of the Real Academia de Bellas Artes de San Fernando . With Conrado del Campo and Bartolomé Pérez Casas he founded the Sociedad Didáctico Musical , of which he became president. He was also president of the Sociedad Artístico-Musical de Socorros Mutuos . In addition to symphonic, church music and piano works, he composed Cantos populares gallegos and Tríptico gallego for voice and piano (1923), Bocetos románticos (1934), Castellanas (1940) and choral versions of 60 Cantiges King Alfonso the Wise .
