Conrado del Campo

Conrado del Campo y Zabaleta (born October 28, 1878 in Madrid , † March 17, 1953 ibid) was a Spanish composer , violinist and music teacher.

Life

Del Campo studied in 1889 at the Real Conservatorio Superior de Música de Madrid with José del Hierro , Jesús de Monasterio , Pedro Fontanilla and Emilio Serrano , he also took courses with Ruperto Chapí y Lorente . He also played the violin in the symphony orchestra of the Teatro Real , in the Cuarteto Francés and the Quinteto de Madrid .

In 1915 he became professor of composition at the Conservatory of Madrid. His students included musicians such as Cristóbal Halffter , Enrique Franco , Amadeo Roldán and Domingo Santa Cruz Wilson .

Del Campo composed operas and zarzuelas , symphonic and chamber music works.

In 1899 Del Campo received a composition prize for the symphonic poem Ante las Ruinas . In 1928 he received the second prize in the Iberian preliminary round in the International Schubert Competition for completing Schubert's Unfinished .
