Domingo Santa Cruz Wilson

Domingo Santa Cruz Wilson (born July 5, 1899 in La Cruz , Región de Valparaíso , † January 6, 1987 in Santiago de Chile ) was a Chilean composer and music teacher.

Santa Cruz studied composition in Chile with Enrique Soro , later (1922–23) in Spain with Conrado del Campo . In 1917 he founded the Sociedad Bach , a choir that existed until 1932. From 1928 he taught at the Conservatorio Nacional de Música , where he gave classes in music history and composition until 1953.

In 1930 he was one of the founders of the Music Faculty of the Universidad de Chile in Santiago de Chile. He was also co-founder of the Orquesta Sinfónica de Chile , the Coro Sinfónico , the Radio of the University of Chile, the Revista Musical Chilena , the Dirección de Investigaciones Musicales and the Instituto de Extensión Musical (1941). In 1951 he received the Premio Nacional de Arte in the music category.

Santa Cruz composed two symphonies and other orchestral works, chamber and piano music as well as vocal works.
