Benjamin of Persia
Benjamin of Persia (* 400 ; † 424 ) is a Christian martyr .
Benjamin was born in Persia . After he was ordained a deacon in the Christian church, he began missionary work in his home country. After he was arrested for this reason in 422-423, he began to proclaim again after his release. Thereupon the king Bahram V had him arrested and executed under torture. The skewers used in his murder made thorns or thorn branches one of his attributes.
In the Catholic Church March 31st is his name day, in the Orthodox Church it is March 30th.
