Benne (unit)

Benne was a measure of volume for coals . The word means car body in Alsace , southwest Germany and Tyrol . In the Rhineland and the Netherlands the corresponding word was ben for the woven basket. In English, am for the box. The Tyrolean variant was the changed spelling. The penne , also coal penne, was the measure of volume here. The term is also derived from the large basket on a cart.
