Benno Treidler

Benno Treidler (born September 11, 1857 in Berlin , † June 17, 1931 in Rio de Janeiro ) was a German painter, draftsman, watercolourist, decorator, set designer and teacher. Since 1885 he worked in Brazil.

Life

Treidler studied landscape painting with Christian Wilberg and Ferdinand Lechner at the Prussian Academy of Arts in Berlin from 1875 to 1880 .

Treidler came to Rio de Janeiro in 1885 and began teaching painting as a teacher. His students included u. a. Joaquim José da França Júnior . Treidler was recognized as a citizen of Rio de Janeiro in 1891 and since then has mainly occupied himself with fresco painting.

In 1891 he created paintings in the Bank of Brazil, the Gaffrée building and the Fabrica de São Paulo. In 1894 he painted the ceiling of the Hall of Honor of the headquarters of the Jockey Club of Brazil. In the same year he received the third class gold medal.

From 1919 to 1930 he was a member of the Supreme Council of Fine Arts.

In 1982 a collection of his works was shown in the Museum of Fine Arts in Rio de Janeiro as part of the exhibition 150 Years of Marine Painting in the Art of Brazil .
