Benoît Jutras (composer)

Benoît Jutras (* 1963 in Montreal , Canada ) is a Canadian composer .

Life

Benoît Jutras learned the piano relatively early, so that he gave his first concerts at the age of five. Later he discovered rock music for himself and listened as a pianist before deciding on the composition . From 1984 to 1987 he studied music at the Conservatoire de musique du Québec à Montréal. After completing his master's degree , he originally wanted to do a doctorate , but through a friend he received an offer to join Cirque du Soleil for a few weeks as band leader, after which the engagement turned into a five-month tour through Canada and California . It was so successful for him that he stayed for 17 more years.

In addition to published music albums such as La Nouba and Le Rêve , Jutras has increasingly been writing film music since 1997. He composed the music for films like The Other Side of the Moon and Borderline - Kiki's Story , while in 2000 he received the Canadian film award Prix ​​Jutra for best film music for his composition in the drama Alegria .

Jutras is married to an Australian with whom he has a daughter. The family lives in London , England .
