Bentley Rhythm Ace ( BRA ) is a British electronic music duo formed in Birmingham in 1995 and consisting of Mike Stokes and Richard March.

history

The band was formed in Birmingham by Richard March, formerly with Pop Will Eat Itself , and Mike Stokes, formerly with Bugweed Centipede.

"Both more or less penniless, they drank in the same pub and were forced to buy their records at the cheapest place possible - car bootsales."

There were guest appearances by James Atkin, a member of the indie band EMF .

Bentley Rhythm Aces' live drummers were Keith York and Fuzz Townshend, with whom March had previously played in Pop Will Eat Itself.

BRA signed with the Brighton record label Skint and released their debut album of the same name in 1997, Bentley Rhythm Ace , from which the popular single Bentleys Gonna Sort You Out! emerged.

A second album, For Your Ears Only , was released on the Parlophone label in 2000, but was less popular. Another single Madam, Your Carriage Awaits was released. The group then released a double CD called FSUK3 . In 2004 the Bentleys released a four-song record with Sophia Lolley called Angel Face .

The group's name likely refers to Ace Tone's Rhythm Ace line of analog drum machines, some of which were renamed and distributed by Bentley Pianos in the UK.

The group embodies the big beat era. Under contract with Skint Records, they enjoyed commercial success with their music, which was used in television advertising and had an underground following.

The group broke up in 2000, after which only occasional DJ sets were played. In 2016 there was a reunion of the duo. Live sets have been played at festivals across the UK and The Wonder Stuff's December tour has been supported.
